"A Wildcat's gone down ..."

Those were the words many of us heard Saturday evening as we were celebrating a fantastic day at the airshow.

After a routine photo flight about an hour after the day's air show had ended, CAF pilot William K. Johnson of Parkton, North Carolina was killed when the FM-2 Wildcat fighter he was flying crashed on approach to Ellington Field. There were no casualties on the ground. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Our sympathies and condolences are extended to his family, friends and fellow members of the Carolinas Wing of the CAF. The Missing Man formation that closed the air show on Sunday was dedicated to his memory.
